Maybe Not a Perfect Ten but a Perfect Ten to Me! Happy Birthday to the Soapbox!
Yahoo, woohoo, cock-a-doodle-doo, dispy-doo, and supercalifragilisticexpialidocious-doo! It’s time to celebrate, boogie down, hula, rhumba, shimmy shimmy ko-ko-bop, do the hustle and the twist and the Batusi, and even waltz across Texas and Texas City, Illinois! An Ordinary Joe’s Soapbox is celebrating its tenth birthday!
As I wrote in my last post, I enjoy blog writing because it is the purest form of writing. Even though I don’t presume to be a king (though I am king as well as emperor-sized), I am a literary king in this niche of the blogosphere. And as the saying goes, it’s good to be king.
Because I have been blogging for a decade, many changes have occurred. Originally, I wrote two or three times a week, but I decided giving my opinions once a week was enough. I didn’t write as much in 2020 as I did in the past largely because I was preoccupied with other writing projects and partially because of the coronavirus catastrophe. I haven’t written much about space in a few light years, maybe because the Final Frontier doesn’t dominate the news headlines as much as it did during the 1960s and early 1970s. More and more, I have been shying away from writing about controversial topics like politics, economics, and the intricacies of the infield fly rule because I have become a blogger who just wants to have fun.
One thing that has dismayed me is that while blogging is certainly not extinct, it is not as prominent as it was a decade ago. When I started An Ordinary Joe’s Soapbox, I was astounded to discover how many outstanding writers were on the blogosphere. The blogosphere gave a forum to people who weren’t journalists, TV pundits, magazine writers, academics, and authors. However, with the rise of Twitter and Facebook, few people anymore immediately turn to blogs for information. Worse, many of the blogs I enjoyed reading have been gone for a number of years. I find that a shame because I take the attitude there are never enough blogs on the internet.
I don’t have a favorite post because all my of posts, in one way or another, are my favorites. While this blog is not a perfect ten to all of my readers, it is a perfect ten to me!
Now let’s sing:
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday An Ordinary Joe’s Soapbox,
Happy birthday to you!
So many memories, so much fun. I am glad I have been a blogger for ten years.
Joe’s Maybe Memorable Quote of the Day
In a beauty pageant, I’m a minus ten.
